Flashback Friday Pt. 1
15 Jan
So I thought it would be fun to share a little bit of my past each week with what I am calling “Flashback Friday”. Hopefully it will give you a little glimpse of who I am and where I came from.
For the first week I thought I would share with you mine and my wife’s history, our “love story” if you will. Hope you enjoy! If you are in a relationship I would love to hear how you met your other half.
Josh & Natalie – The Early Days
Well, in case you didn’t know, my wife Natalie and I have been together way longer than our wedding anniversary will tell you. We have been married for a little under two years but have been dating off and on since we were in junior high(7th Grade – 1998)! Yes, thats roughly 12 years!
In Junior High our relationship was the same as any 13 year old couple, one week we were together and the next week we are broken up. If I remember correctly the two of us went off and on at least 15 times through 7th & 8th grade. Even though we broke up so many times there was always something leading me to want to be with her again. At that age I didn’t know what it was, but I knew there was something special about her.
The biggest road block came at the end of our 8th grade year when I was transferring schools and moving on with my life as we both entered high school. In my 8th grade yearbook, before I left, she wrote something that even though she may have meant it to be so little and so small I took it to heart and is something I would never forget. A simple “I’ll always remember you” and “come back to visit”.
8th Grade Yearbook

Well despite trying to come back and ask her to my homecoming dance I found out she was dating some other jerkface(yes that’s you Mr. Adam Chavez!… hehe). But I did manage to find my way back to the same school for our sophomore year of high school. And then it all officially began…
That year I came back we both had no intentions of getting back together but of course we couldn’t fight destiny. I couldn’t help but to ask her to the Winter Formal dance. That marked the the date of our official ” first date”. Below is a picture of the two of us. Check out those killer bleached spikes! lol.
10th Grade Winter Formal

From that day, January 18, 2001 we have been together ever since. We’ve had many many bumps along the road but by the faith of God we have hurdled them all and have made it to where we are today and pray that God continues to strengthen out relationship as we continue on the path of life together.

What a sweet story you two have! And you both look so young in that picture lol :). It’s so fun to go down memory lane. Thanks for sharing!
Sweet story bro! Dude, I love the hair in the winter formal pic… Classic.
Thanks for reading and leaving the comments Liz & Josh! It’s always fun to reminisce on the memories.
Josh,
That’s awesome dude. It’s like one of those stories they make in to a movie. Truly special. And it’s awesome that you know it’s only by faith in God that your relationship has grown (and will continue to do so).
I wrote up a post over on my blog about how my wife and I met. I’m not sure if you’ve read it or not. But it’s called “Our Space” – http://kylesteed.com/2008/our-space/
Thanks for the tiny insight to your life, and I look forward to more. Have a great weekend.
Thanks so much for your comment Kyle! Your story is AWESOME! It’s so amazing to see how God brings two people together. Thanks for sharing as well!
Hilarious! It’s fun because mine and Kesha’s whole love story from meeting to now is documented in our blogs since we both had blogs before we met. So fun!
I had some gnarly hair too back in the day. We can share horror stories sometimes :)
That’s so awesome Vin!! I went back and read some of your old posts. How cool it must be to have all of those moments and feelings documented like that! If only I knew what the heck blogging was in 7th grade. :)
We will definitely have to whip out those old hair pics sometime. I’ve got some pretty disgraceful styles in my past lol.
